Our client had recently transformed their house to include a beautiful new kitchen and a large open plan space with bi-fold doors looking out to a lovely garden. Their stylish building designs had created a dining area and two living spaces separated by a dual-aspect fireplace.
As a young family, the brief was to create a cosy space to curl up in front of the TV and a more “Grown-up” a space in which they could have coffee or glass of wine with friends or play board games with the kids. They asked for a contemporary, cosy style and preferred a soft colour palette such as greys, purples, blues and greens.
In the family space, we used a large corner sofa, perfect for cosying up with the family on film nights, and a bespoke TV unit to tidy away any wires, remotes and technology. Gentle light from table lamps helped bring light into the space which otherwise had limited natural light. Bespoke cushions and prints in soft blue and grey hues carried the colours through from the formal living area.
The formal seating area lent itself to sleek but comfortable sofas and a smart black framed coffee table (for those all important glasses of wine). We chose a bold black wood and glass sideboard for the back of the space and large framed artwork to pull all of the room’s colours together.
The large dining area was ideal for a long oak table with contrasting contemporary wingback chairs, and large modern mirror over an oak and metal sideboard, each with black details that were repeated in other aspects of the space.
